iPhone 6C Release Date Latest News: Points Towards Cheap Plastic Body Over iPhone 5S Hardware

Apple is reportedly planning to launch three iPhones during the second half of this year, with a release date rumored for September 2015. They have been dubbed the iPhone 6C, iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
There has been no official word yet from the company about this, but it hasn't stopped speculations and alleged leaks on the devices. A recent leak showed that the iPhone 6C was in development and would have the same type of plastic body that was featured in the iPhone 5C.
The current leak about the iPhone 6C featured a red phone with a plastic case and a double row of speaker grills. Added to this was an elongated flash. These features point towards Apple trying to reduce the manufacturing costs of the model by using the hardware from the iPhone 5S, which was its flagship model before the iPhone 6 and its phablet cousin the iPhone 6 Plus were released.
There are also indications that the iPhone 6C will measure 4 inches, which will make it considerably smaller than last year's flagship models. However, Forbes states that this could make the phone a hit with people who prefer to have smaller devices and are not happy with how the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have to be used with two hands.
Apple experimented with lower priced iPhones with the 5C. Compared to the premium iPhone line, the 5C still proved to be quite costly. This appears to be the main reason why the iPhone 5C has been underperforming in terms of sales.
However, industry analysts pointed out that Apple actually made a big profit on the sale of iPhone 5C devices because of its use of cheaper materials, including the phone's plastic body.
Last year it was reported that Apple was planning to stop production of the iPhone 5C and replace it with another plastic bodied range that is smaller and appealed to women. Motley Fool said along with the iPhone 6C would come a "smarter pricing strategy" from Apple. Even if it charges $99 for the device with a two-year contract it would still be earning a big profit, the source said.
