When Apple launched the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus a few months ago, it was difficult to say how they would sell. However, recently sales figures have indicated that the smaller iPhone 6 is being snapped up quicker than the iPhone 6 plus.

Apple does not provide sales figures for each of its iPhone brands, but analysts have quoted a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) that takes the total sales figures for all iPhones into account.

With the aid of this report they have calculated the sales figures for each of the iPhones that were released recently. According to them, the iPhone 6 accounts for an overwhelming 68 percent of all iPhone sales, while the iPhone 6 Plus accounts for around 23-24 percent of sales. Older iPhone versions finally account for around 9 percent of sales.

Digital Trends notes that since there is a worldwide shortage of the latest iPhones, the figures released could actually mean that demand is far higher than the sales figures recorded.

One reason being provided for the higher sales of the iPhone 6 is that most customers are familiar with the smaller product and its design. Also it seems that customers are not attracted to the iPhone 6 Plus even though it has a bigger screen and longer battery life, as there are a number of Android phones that offer the same features and have up to 3 GB of RAM.

TechCrunch notes that the iPhone 6 Plus is turning off a lot of traditional iPhone users as they feel it is too big to hold in one hand. Also interestingly the CIRP report notes that fewer Android users shifted to the iPhone compared to the last release, adding that this could be because Android phablets are cheaper and more robust than the latest iPhone 6 Plus.
