iPhone 6 Plus Sales News: Share In Phablet Market Surges To 41 Percent

The iPhone 6 Plus took 41 percent chunk of the phablet market within six weeks after it was launched last Sept. 19, an international consumers' report says.

News of the new phablet from Apple overwhelming its rivals first emerged in a report published by Kantar World Panel, an international company dealing in consumer knowledge and insights. The company noted that in a three-month period ending in October 2014, the iPhone 6 plus emerged as a key player among other phablets with a screen size larger than 5.5 inches.

This is considered significant since the iPhone 6 Plus has only been made available to the public during the first six weeks after it was unveiled. In contrast, the competitors of iPhone 6 Plus have been in the market for at least three months now.

One important point in analyzing the data is that the premium tablet from Samsung, the Galaxy Note 4, was still not fully available by September this year. As such, its complete sales figures could not have figured in the report produced by Kantar World Panel.

A major factor that seems to contribute to the success of iPhone 6 Plus is its large screen size. The report released by Kantar mentioned that 58 percent of people who bought the phablet chose it because of its larger screen size.

However, it seems that people switching from Android devices to the iPhone 6 Plus only accounted for 9 percent of sales, while the vast majority of buyers already owned an iOS handset.

The small amount of users switching from Android to the iPhone 6 Plus did not shock many. This figure could rise in the near future after those loyal to the Apple brand and its devices have had their fill.

Finally, the report from Kantar also notes that overall sales of phablets have increased since last year. At that time phablets were found to make up 2 percent of all smartphones sold. However that figure has risen substantially to 10 percent this year with more people preferring smartphones with bigger screens.
