iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus vs iPad Air 2 Review: Did Apple Inadvertently Shoot Itself In The Foot?

Apple is just waking up to the fact that it has created competition for its iPad with its own iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. While this isn't good news for Apple, its competitors are no doubt gleeful thinking that the company has inadvertently shot itself in the foot.
However, it seems unlikely that Apple would have been unaware of the decline in the use of iPads as the screen sizes of their iPhone range have increased. This trend was seen years ago as iPhone consumption has increased versus that of the iPad.
Recent data revealed by Pocket app shows that people who bought the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus spent more time on them compared to the iPads that they own. In fact they used the iPhone 6 Plus 80 percent of the time for reading and viewing videos compared to using their iPads 20 percent of the time.
The data was gleaned from a sample set of over 2 million clicks or opens of videos and articles which were saved via the Pocket app.
In the study, Pocket also compared the usage statistics of people who earlier used the iPhone 5s and an iPad. It noted that iPhone 5 users used the phone for about 55 percent of their reading and video viewing tasks while they used the iPad 45 percent of the time.
There was also a marked change in content consumption when users bought the iPhone 6 Plus as they opened 65 percent more articles and videos using it. While this could just mean that people are simply fascinated with their new device, it also shows that users of the bigger sized phones have started consuming more digital content.
TechCruch says the report shows that as the iPhone screen size grows it eats away at the popularity of the iPad. It says the numbers provided by Pocket app need to be checked over the years to see if the trend continues.
