iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus Sales: Set For Record-Breaking Sales This Holiday Quarter

A leading analyst is predicting that "heavy demand" for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will help Apple beat last year's record-setting sales during the holiday quarter.
Last year, the company sold over 51 million units in the quarter, and this year could see that number jump to 71.5 million.
Details of the record-breaking sales for the quarter were noticed in an investors' report prepared by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities. BGR notes that Kuo has accurately predicted sales figures and features for iPhone models in the past.
Currently KGI is predicting that shipments of the two latest iPhone models will increase dramatically by 82 percent in the last quarter of 2014 which will contribute to the record-setting sales figures. This indicates the sales figures will depend on Apple fixing supply chain problems and ramping up shipments to meet the heavy demand for iPhone models.
In its breakdown of the sales figures, KGI has indicated that 41.6 million units of the smaller iPhone 6 are expected to be sold during the holidays. The sale will surpass that of its larger sibling, the iPhone 6 Plus, which is predicted to sell 15.1 million units. Older models such as iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c will sell for 8.8 million and 4.3 million units respectively.
With the iPhone 6 expected to outsell the iPhone 6 Plus and account for over 60 percent of the sales in the United States, sources say this will be a clear indication that customers in the U.S. prefer the smaller iPhone model. However, it is a different story overseas with the iPhone 6 Plus selling better in some Asian countries particularly China.
There is one gloomy note to the prediction of blockbuster holiday sales for the iPhone line. KGI has predicted that sales will dip in the first quarter of 2015. The analyst says it is going to be a sharp drop with only 49.3 million units being sold.
