iPad Mini 3 vs Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Comparison: Specs Review - Sony Puts Up A Fight
Apple recently added the iPad Mini 3 to it range of outstanding tablets and it went on to outshine other tablets in the 7-8 inch display space, including the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
However, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, the first 8-inch tablet from Sony, puts up a good fight in a side to side comparison.
Apple's iPad Mini 3 has much of the same design as its older models and comes with rounded corners, chamfered edges, a full metal body and a aspect ratio of 4:3. In contrast, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has an aspect ratio of 16:10, which results in better video playback.
The Sony tablet is also fully waterproof unlike the iPad Mini 3.
The 7.9-inch display on the iPad Mini 3 comes with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and a pixel density of 324 pixels per inch. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has an 8-inch screen with a resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels and a pixel density of 283 pixels per inch.
As for specs, the iPad Mini 3 has an Apple A7 chipset, along with a dual-core 1.3 GHz Cyclone CPU that is ARM v8-based, and a PowerVR G6430 GPU. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has a Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801chipset, a quad-core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 CPU along with an Adreno 330 GPU.
The iPad Mini 3 comes with 1GB of RAM which can pose challenges to users especially when multitasking has to be done. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact has no such issues as it has 3GB of RAM.
The iPad Mini 3 is available in three versions: 16, 64, and 128 GB. Like all Apple devices, it does not have an internal card slot. Compared to this, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is only sold with 16 GB onboard memory but comes with a microSD slot which can be used to increase its external memory up to 128 GB.
In terms of price, the basic 16 GB version of the iPad Mini 3 is available on Amazon for $367.00 while the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is actually costlier at $450.
