iPad Air 3 release date, news, rumors: iPad Air variant will continue even with iPad Pro

It has long been rumored that Apple's iPad Air series might be seeing its end very soon. However, not all hope is lost that the next iteration of the mid-range Apple tablet will be released in the near future. The rumors began that the iPad Air 3 will no longer be a reality because of Apple's unexpected launching of the new iPad Pro last year. If these rumors are correct, then the iPad Air may turn out to be a thing of the past as the Cupertino-based tech giant is focused on iPad Pro.

Amid all the speculations that the iPad Air series will be discontinued, there are reports pointing to a possible September 2016 release date of the iPad Air 3. It is rumored that Apple may not have completely given up on the iPad Air as the company is planning to unbox the iPad Air 2 successor this Fall.

The iPad Pro has become the primary reason for the public to believe that Apple will be shifting its focus away from the iPad Air series. MacWorld UK even reported that it may not take too long before Apple completely scraps the iPad Air series. When Apple first introduced the iPad Pro, its features are right on the current trend with the hybrid devices. As the iPad Pro becomes a hit, the chances for a new iPad Air being launched is getting slimmer by the day.

Apple has been rumored to launch the follow-up device to iPad Air 2 since last year. Many people believed that the iPad Air 3 would finally make an appearance last October 2015. It turned out then that Apple would be launching the new iPad Pro instead of expanding its mid-range iPad Air series. Recently, the iPad Air 3 was then again rumored to be released this Fall. Many are now expecting that September will be the big month for the next iPad Air to launch.

However, the absence of iPad Air 3 at WWDC 2016 could be an indication that the device will not be unveiled anytime soon. A separate report from MacWorld UK suggested that instead of September 2016 release date of iPad Air 3, it could be launched at a much later date. It is likely that the new iPad Air will be among the next batch of new tech innovations that Apple will be presenting on their next big event, which will happen in March 2017.
