'Incurable' HBO TV Show: New Supernatural Drama Set to Premiere
Supernatural dramas can sometimes be a "hit-and-miss" thing, but this won't stop HBO from developing its own.
The home of "Game of Thrones" has put in development a one-hour drama, which will focus on a support group for people with supernatural problems.
The show, to be titled "Incurable," will have the Newsroom's Alan Poul as its executive producer and director.
Poul has a long history with HBO, serving as an executive producer on "The Newsroom" and "Six Feet Under" as well as director on "Rome" and "Big Love."
Hollywood Reporter has also learned that Will Strouse, the son of famed composer Charles Strouse, will write the script and co-produce the new "extraordinary" series.
Strouse was the one who developed scripts for FX and CBS Television Studios.
In the supernatural drama series, HBO will put ghosts, werewolves, vampires, and zombies in a room together, the Guardian Liberty Voice said, citing reports from Variety and AV Club.
"The premise is a little different to many others, and will feature a range of creatures from the beginning. It also seems like the network is looking to add a sort of human element to the show," the Guardian said.
With "Incurable," HBO will be competing against "Supernatural," "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals," which are all coming back for their 11th, seventh, and third seasons respectively next fall.
Other networks have the likes of "The Walking Dead" and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" while others like "Tomorrow People" and "The Secret Circle" were cancelled after just one season.
The Guardian Liberty's Alexandria Ingham said the premiere cable network has a fighting chance if it airs the new drama before or after "Game of Thrones."
But Ingham clarified that things must be fixed with the whole streaming issue first to ensure the success of "Incurable."
"At the moment, fans of HBO need to get a cable subscription to stream online. The network is talking about introducing a streaming-only service, which will make many fans happy," she said.
"There is no confirmation over when this will happen yet. It would give the show a new chance, since people can watch wherever they are without paying what they feel is a fortune," she added.
