iMac 2016 release date, specs rumors update: To introduce new Intel processor

Last year, Apple introduced the Retina screen to its smaller Mac devices. Meanwhile, the larger units were given Skylake processor chips. Though Apple has yet to reveal the details of the 2016 iMac, many believe that the tech giant will be introducing a new Intel processor with the device's launch.

According to reports, U.S. retailer Best Buy leaked information about the 2016 iMac. The retailer revealed that the device will be powered by a Kaby Lake chipset, which is a seventh-generation Intel Core processor.

The Kaby Lake processors will be able to support the Thunderbolt 3, USB 3.1 and the Display Port 1.2. In addition, the device will have eight cores and 16 threads. If Apple decides to include the processor, it will be the fastest iMac yet.

The forthcoming iMac will reportedly come in a 27-inch display with 32 GB of RAM. Furthermore, the device will have a 2 TB fusion drive as well as an AMD Radeon R9 M380 GPU, which will have 2 GB of RAM.

Though Intel has been rumored to be supplying Apple's Central Processing Unit (CPU), AMD will still be seen in a few of the iMac units.

Apple has yet to respond to the retailer's recent reveal; hence, fans of the tech line should treat the unofficial details as speculation until proven otherwise. Reports suggested that the information revealed was a bit questionable, especially when the retailer claimed that the iMac costs $3,200.

The listing from Best Buy was taken down shortly after it was revealed. However, it had already caught the attention of various news outlets and tech-savvy individuals.

The latest unit in the iMac line was introduced on Oct. 13 last year. Apple junkies are crossing their fingers for the tech giant to reveal the upcoming devices within the month.
