Rumor has it that celebrity couple Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are currently facing marital problems, and Nina Dobrev may be part of the reason for the pair's reported divorce.

Somerhalder and Reed have been facing rumors of a marriage breakdown for a couple of months now, but they seem to have stepped it up a notch. Some insiders claim that the two are on the brink of a split because Dobrev is back into her ex-boyfriend's life.

For those not on the loop, fans have been pushing for Dobrev to make a comeback in "The Vampire Diaries" since she left in 2015. Since the series is already nearing the premiere of its eighth and final season, viewers are hoping to see Dobrev's character Elena return even just for the show's final episode.

With only a month before the supernatural drama returns to the small screen, negotiation for Dobrev's return is still in progress. There are speculations that Somerhalder personally approached the actress, pleading for her to make the comeback to help boost ratings and make the program end on a high.

According to sources, the actor doesn't have any major project coming up after "The Vampire Diaries," which makes him determined to build his brand over the coming months. Since ratings dropped significantly after Dobrev in season 6, there will likely be an increased viewership if the show wraps up with a reunion between her character Elena and Somerhalder's Damon.

Understandably, Reed was not pleased to know that her husband is so desperate to work with his old flame. There are rumors that she threatened to end their marriage if anything happens between the former lovebirds, or if she feels that things are starting to get inappropriate between the two.

Although these claims have yet to be proven correct, Somerhalder and Reed are still keeping their silence on the issue. Hence, fans should take every report with a grain of salt unless a representative from either party gives an official press statement.
