Hyatt Becomes Latest Major Hotel to Remove Pornographic Channels From Guest Rooms
The Hyatt Hotel Corporation announced this week that it will begin phasing out pornography from its list of channel choices for hotel guests, following the lead of the Hilton Hotel Corporation this past summer.
The major hotel group said in a statement this week that its "in-room programming choices are just one part of the guest experience Hyatt is constantly evaluating."
"As part of that process, Hyatt has made the decision to stop offering adult entertainment video on-demand at any Hyatt hotel," the statement added.
Hyatt's announcement comes after Hilton Worldwide announced that it would be removing pornography channels from guest hotel rooms back in August.
The company said in a statement at the time that its decision was made to "[keep] with our company's vision and goals moving forward."
"While the vast majority of our properties already do not offer this content today, this content will be phased out of all other hotels subject to the terms of their contracts," the hotel brand added back in August.
Anti-pornography groups, including the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, have applauded these recent hotel corporations for their commitment to cut down on pornography viewing.
"With this step, Hyatt is proving itself to be a leader among corporations that value a positive and safe environment for their consumers," the group's president, Patrick Trueman, said in a statement.
As The Guardian reports, several hotel chains have been eliminating their in-room movie services in response to the declining trend of guests renting movies during their stay.
