Chinese smartphone tech giant Huawei Technologies is bringing out its big guns, courtesy of its recent Huawei Mate 9 offerings.

The flagship iteration, which was just recently launched, is officially getting a smaller yet equally powerful sibling — Huawei Mate 9 Pro. Unwrapped in China on Nov. 14, 2016, the newest entry sports a noticeable 5.5-inch active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with quad high-definition (QHD) panel. Furthermore, the device is encased in curved edges, similar to Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

On Huawei Mate 9 Pro, the Guangdong-based firm has evidently moved its fingerprint sensor from the back of its parent entry to the front while on-screen navigation is still being used. It is powered by the firm's proprietary Hisilicon Kirin 960 with Mali-G71 MP8. It has 4GB to 6GB worth of random-access memory (RAM) and 64GB and 128GB of internal storage.

Huawei Mate 9 Pro sports a dual 20-megapixel (MP) plus 12MP with f/2.2 aperture, optical image stabilization, 2X zoom, phase detection, laser autofocus and a dual-LED (dual tone) flash. Meanwhile, the smartphone is equipped with an 8MP front-facing snapper with f/1.9 aperture and 1,080p recording.

Apart from the fingerprint sensor, Huawei Mate 9 Pro also has gyro, proximity, barometer and a compass. Its connectivity functionalities include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), Wi-Fi Direct and a hotspot. Also, the smartphone is fueled by a non-removable 4,000-milliampere-hour (mAh) battery.

Huawei Mate 9 and Huawei Mate 9 Pro are scheduled to go on sale in China this week while the special edition (a Porsche-designed Huawei Mate 9) is slated to hit shelves in mid-December. The price for the base model will reportedly start at $685.

On the other hand, the 4GB/64GB tier variant will be priced at around $775 while the pricing for the 6GB/256GB tier variant has not been disclosed yet. It is currently rumored to be retailed at around $835.

All of these variants run the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.
