'How to Get Away with Murder' season 3 air date, cast & spoilers news: Mary J. Blige to guest-star, new mystery baffles cast

Multiple Grammy winner Mary J. Blige is set to appear in the third season of "How to Get Away with Murder."
According to Deadline, the singer/actress will be featured as a guest. It is unclear, however, if Blige will appear in a single episode or if she will have a recurring role in the award-winning drama/thriller.
While details about Blige's role are being kept under wraps, an intriguing new storyline for the ABC drama was recently unveiled, in which law professor Annalise Keating, played by Emmy winner Viola Davis, becomes the victim of an unknown perpetrator who is putting up posters of her with the word "killer" all over Middleton University.
In a recent interview with the same media outlet, Davis said that "How to Get Away with Murder" season 3 will feature a whole new mystery where things would escalate quickly in the premiere episode. The actress also said that she and her co-stars are completely clueless about the coming season's mystery, unlike last year when they put their heads together and were able to figure it out.
Davis said that series creator Peter Nowalk is "presenting a new mystery, and it's going to be presented very quickly in the first episode, which, by the way, we cannot figure out on the set."
"I mean, last year we could figure it out; we actually did," she continued, adding: "We got together and figured it out. This year we're totally stumped."
If the show's cast members were stumped by the upcoming season's mystery, then viewers could also have a hard time decoding it. This can only mean that fans of the ShondaLand thriller can look forward to a rollercoaster ride in the next season of "How to Get Away with Murder."
Davis also explained that the series will explore the relationships of the characters in a deeper way. Davis also revealed that Annalise will be dealing with the Keating Five as well as with other students from Middleton University.
"So, there's going to be a whole different classroom where they're dealing with pro bono cases," she disclosed. "All of it will be solved within the season — a lot of questions will be answered."
"How to Get Away With Murder" season 3 is scheduled to debut on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
