'House of Cards' season 5 spoilers: Michael Kelly weighs in on Doug Stamper; Will Frank Underwood redeem himself?

With still a year away from the expected premiere, rumor has it that Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) will definitely get his much-needed self-redemption in "House of Cards" season 5.
The fourth season posed many challenges for Frank, with him being in a comatose after an assassination attempt. To boot, his misdeeds with Peter Russo (Corey Stole) and Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara) were exposed. As if Frank's misfortunes were not enough, his bodyguard Meechum (Nathan Darrow) turned on him and his first lady/vice president cheated on him with Tom Yates (Paul Sparks). The story for season 5 will definitely pick up on the said storyline, but it might also show Frank finally redeeming himself.
On another note, actor Michael Kelly recently caught up with Indiewire to discuss his role as Doug Stamper. "Doug is so much based on addiction, from alcohol to Rachel to Frank, it's something he has to have: tunnel vision. His loyalty to Frank is a byproduct of his loyalty to his job. When he failed, he saw another life he could have with his family and his brother, with a job that would take him elsewhere and Hawaii, to an easier life. He could do it, but it didn't make him tick," Kelly explained. Furthermore, the Emmy-nominee does not consider the character of Doug to be entirely evil. "[He is] not a bad guy. He does bad things. He's a complicated guy with serious addiction issues," he said.
Early this year, Netflix announced a season renewal for "House of Cards" which is rumored to premiere on 2017. Following the fourth season, executive producer Beau Willimon stepped down and was replaced by his co-showrunners Melissa Gibson and Frank Pugliese. This led to speculations that the show will end on its fifth season, since Willimon greatly contributed to the show's success. However, Netflix has yet to address the rumors about a possible ending for the series.
