"House of Cards" season 4 recentlly came out (all at once - Netflix binge watch style), and with the show getting renewed for another season and the show's showrunner and creator Beau Willimon not going to be involved in the next episodes, a pair from the show will take his place according to Variety—Melissa James Gibson and Frank Pugliese.
"House of Cards" season 5 will once again feature Kevin Spacey in a lead role as President Frank Underwood, along with Robin Wright as his wife Claire. The show has the theme of power and money as President Underwood strives to hold his foot down and remain the most powerful person in the country. Along with a team of equally cunning politicians, the couple will have to manipulate their way to defeat other groups who wish to end their reign.
It was reported by Entertainment Weekly that Willimon will have his exit to the Emmy award-winning TV drama, prior to the premiere of season 4 on March 4 on Netflix.
He thanked the House of Cards team, including Spacey and Wright which he described as "two incandescent stars."
"After five years and four seasons, it's time for me to move on to new endeavors... but I'm supremely proud of what we've built together, wish the show much continued success, and leave it in the hands of a very capable team," Willimon stated.
Netflix also gave their statement regarding Willimon leaving the show after four straight seasons. "Netflix and MRC owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Beau Willimon for his strong narrative vision for House of Cards over the show's first four seasons," it said.
The show, produced by Media Rights Capital, took in Gibson and Pugliese during the third season of "House of Cards."
"We and the rest of the 'House of Cards' writers look forward to the next chapter of the reign of Underwood," said Gibson and Pugliese said.
