"Homeland" season 6's premise looks to be a thinly veiled presentation of what is actually happening in U.S. politics. Claire Danes, who stars as CIA Officer Carrie Ann Mathison, recently revealed a key detail about the series' next season, which couldn't have come at a more interesting time.

Danes attended an event in New York earlier this month and Entertainment Weekly reported that the actress outright told the press that the sixth season would be introducing a female President of the United States. She made it clear, though, that the character will not be based on Hillary Clinton, who won the Democratic Party nomination in the current election race.

According to Danes, the show's female president would be a "kind of a composite of all of the different candidates and a kind of ... not rebellious necessarily, but she's challenging norms and is a little threatening for that reason."

The actress likewise said the new president and her character would get along "pretty well."

Meanwhile, fans who are wondering whatever happened to Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) would be happy to know that he would be back for the upcoming season, according to International Business Times.

It would be recalled that Quinn's life was put on the line after terrorists exposed him to poisonous gas. Doctors told Carrie, Quinn's on-again/off-again flame and co-worker, that it would be hard to tell if his quality of life would be back to normal if he ever survived the ordeal.

Season 5 ended with Carrie placing Quinn's heart monitor on her finger and as she smiled down on Quinn who was lying in a hospital bed, a bright light shone through.

Now, showrunner Alex Gansa has teased that Quinn's near-death experience would bring about some surprising changes. He said the character will be "dramatized" in the upcoming season in a way that will shock viewers. "It may not be what you think," he told TV Line.

TV Line's report alluded that the former assassin might be "more willing to show his intimate and personal side," which could have a strong bearing on Carrie and Quinn's future.

"Homeland" season 6 is expected to be back on air sometime in January 2017 and according to Gansa, it would be set in New York City, particularly the period between the November presidential elections and the inauguration in January.
