'Homeland' season 6 spoilers: EP confirms Quinn is alive, series to take place during election day

Showtime's hit political thriller series "Homeland" concluded its fifth season with a lot of loose ends which viewers hope to see resolved in the upcoming season 6. The show is slated to premiere in the Fall, and showrunner Alex Gansa confirmed that Quinn (Rupert Friend) is alive.
In the season 5 finale, Carrie (Claire Danes) was on the verge of pulling the plug on her brain dead love interest/co-worker, but the showrunner assured fans that Quinn will surely be back next season. "Rupert will be back, but not the same," Gansa stated in a For Your Consideration panel via E! News. "How we're dramatizing Peter Quinn is still undecided at this moment." It remains to be seen how he will come back given his vegetative state in season 5, but Quinn's portrayer Friend mentioned that his character will return as a "changed man."
The show has spent previous seasons in foreign territories like Berlin and Islamabad, but this time, the espionage drama will be set in New York City. Keeping true to its concept of featuring real-life current events and worldwide issues, the series will tackle the 2016 U.S. presidential elections once it returns to the small screen. "The whole season takes place between Election Day in November and the inauguration of a new president in January, during this strange and interregnum where a very fragile transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect," the showrunner said.
Along with the show's return to New York City, fans will definitely see familiar faces in the show. Gansa mentioned that characters from the previous seasons will make cameo appearances. He did not give any names but since they are back in the United States, Carrie has an opportunity to reconnect with her old acquaintances.
"Homeland" season 5 returns this coming October on Showtime.
