The personal life of Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) will apparently be the focus of attention in the coming episodes of "Homeland," which airs at 9 p.m. every Sunday on Showtime.

An indication of this was the inclusion of Victoria Clark in the cast. She will play the role of Carrie's mother, which is now on its fourth season.

Until now viewers had only seen Carrie's father (played by James Rebhorn), who was shown to be bipolar. Carrie inherited this from him.

However, since Rebhorn died recently, the show decided to bring in Carrie's mother into the picture. She is expected to provide much needed help to Carrie's sister Maggie (Amy Hargreagves), who is currently looking after Carrie's baby daughter.

The show's viewership has fallen off since the last season which saw the death of Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and Carrie having his baby.

The fourth season is currently being aired and is being played out almost entirely in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Many reviewers have noted that the ongoing fourth season is helping the show reclaim some of the creative momentum it lost with the death of Brody. Also helping the show regain critical praise it earned during its first two seasons has been its bold casting choices.

The seventh episode in the fourth season saw the return of Brody, albeit temporarily, sparking hopes from many that he could still be alive.

Damien Lewis's appearance was hinted for some time when he was spotted on the Homeland set. However, how he would return was a subject of much speculation as his character Brody was hung from a crane in the finale of the third season, and Carrie witnessed his death.

Brody appeared in the episode titled "Redux" as Carrie was hallucinating that she was speaking to him when in fact she was speaking to an ISI officer.
