Hobby Lobby CEO warns religious freedom will disappear if Hillary Clinton wins; says Supreme Court appointments crucial

David Green, the CEO of Hobby Lobby, has warned that it will take only one judge for America to lose its religious liberty. He noted that the vacancy in the Supreme Court is crucial to the presidential election in November.

"Make no mistake, the vacancy left by Justice Scalia and the subsequent appointment to fill his seat makes this presidential election one of the most significant in modern times," said Green in an article published on USA Today.

Green cited a case that his company won in June 2014. The case, Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Stores, would have required them to provide contraception to employees as part of their company's health insurance plan. The business will have to shoulder the daily $1.3 million-penalty if it lost the case.

"Fortunately, the Supreme Court issued a 5-4 ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby in 2014, but it's frightening to think that we — and all Americans — were just one judge away from losing our religious freedom."

The ruling gave Hobby Lobb an exemption from the legal requirement based on religious convictions.

Green warned that people may be forced to violate their conscience if Hillary Clinton becomes president. He cautioned that Clinton's appointee to the highest court in America will stand behind Clinton's convictions.

He further claimed that Trump, unlike Clinton, is unwavering in his commitment to the Constitution. He said that Trump's list of possible nominees to the Supreme Court gives Green hope for his and his grandchildren's future.

Trump released his list of possible Supreme Court nominees last May. The names in the list included Steven Colloton, Allison Eid, Raymond Gruender, Thomas Hardiman, Raymond Kethledge, Joan Larsen, Thomas Lee, William Pryor, David Stras, Diane Sykes and Don Willet.

At the end of his article, Green warned against a Clinton presidency and outrightly endorsed Trump.

"For Americans who value freedom of religion, we must elect a president who will support a Supreme Court that upholds not only this freedom, but all that have emanated from it. That president is Donald Trump," he concluded.
