'Hitman: Agent 47' receives mostly positive reviews, upcoming DLCs in April and May

IO Interactive / Square Enix

Stealth fans will be pleased to know that "Hitman: Agent 47" is back with a new and improved episodic gaming model. Since its initial release in the United Kingdom on March 11, the game has garnered mostly positive reviews.

Originally scheduled for release for Dec. 8. 2015, "Hitman: Agent 47" was delayed to March 11 of this year to include additional content to the base game. New levels can be unlocked once per month spanning the months of April and May, giving fans more updates to anticipate for. The two cities of Sapienza and Marrakesh will be released, followed by expansions for Japan, U.S. and Thailand later this year.

January 2017 is the scheduled launch for the official full disc-based Hitman: Agent 47 game.

In a report by Polygon, IO Interactive head Hannes Seifert discussed the reason behind the scheduling. He mentioned that it is meant for providing more time for the team as they develop the game's levels, while allowing them to "create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future — this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future 'Hitman' games."

Dailystar UK gave a thumbs-up for the game and even pointed out it's improvement since the last critic-splitting Absolution. "But for £12, it's still a pretty good package price-wise and a wonderful start to what could eventually be the best Hitman game ever," according to the review.

The National also gave some feedback with regards to the overall gameplay, stating, "I'm enjoying Hitman so far, and I got a solid five hours of lethal amusement. But the wait for my next contract is going to be killer."

PCGamer gave some constructive criticisms for the game, saying, "Hitman is an excellent progression of the series, and full of smart ideas. It's a great sandbox, and I've already wrung plenty out of it. But it's all built within a framework that feels unrefined and full of compromises. It's a great game, but a poor user experience. Hopefully, at the end of Hitman's release schedule, when we put a final score on the finished game, IO will have listened to feedback, and bolstered and tweaked where needed. Right now, this Intro Pack shows a lot of promise, but falls short of an unconditional recommendation."

During its launch, no season pass was released unlike other video games. Reports say that the IO Interactive considered having paid content as a "wrong approach."

"Hitman: Agent 47" for Microsoft Windows, Xbox one and Playstation is currently on sale.
