Hillary Clinton Vows to Offer 'Full and Equal Citizenship' to Undocumented Immigrants
2016 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton recently offered her views on immigration reform, saying that if she were to take the nation's top political office she would offer undocumented immigrants a "full and equal citizenship" path.
Clinton made her recent comments during a roundtable discussion at a campaign stop in Nevada this week, saying that her desire to provide citizenship to undocumented immigrants sets her apart from her Republican competitors in the 2016 election.
"This is where I differ with everybody on the Republican side. Make no mistake, not a single Republican [...] is clearly and consistently supporting a path to citizenship. Not one," Clinton said during the roundtable discussion, as reported by the Associated Press. "When they talk about legal status, that is code for second-class status."
One of Clinton's aids added to CNN that the former Secretary of State's goal would be to find a legislation solution that would bring "millions of hard-working people out of the shadows and into the formal economy so they can pay taxes and contribute to our nation's prosperity."
Clinton added on Tuesday that she supports the actions of current President Barack Obama that allow some young people to be protected from deportation.
"I don't understand how anyone can look at these young people and think that we should break up more families or turn away young people with talent," Clinton said regarding the president's executive actions who have protected some of the younger generations from deportation. "So I will fight for comprehensive immigration reform and a path to citizenship."
