2016 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has spoken out against the president of the evangelical Liberty University over recent comments he made regarding Muslims and terrorism.

Jerry Falwell Jr., president of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, recently told students during a weekly convocation that Americans should arm themselves with guns to prevent terrorist attacks, like the one that happened in San Bernardino, California recently that left 14 dead.

"I always thought that if more good people had concealed-carry permits, then we could end those Muslims before they walk in and kill," Falwell Jr. reportedly told the students.

Although Falwell has since clarified his comment by insisting he was referring to Muslim terrorists, instead of the entire Muslim population, some have criticized the university president for being anti-Muslim.

2016 presidential hopeful and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Falwell Jr.'s comments are "deplorable."

"This is the kind of deplorable, not only hateful, response to a legitimate security issue but it is giving aid and comfort to ISIS and other radical jihadists," Clinton told the media outlet.

Liberty University has since issued a statement seeking to clarify Falwell's comments, saying that the university president was referring to Muslims who carry out deadly terror attacks.

"[…] he was in no way referring to the many good and honorable Muslims who do not come into public spaces armed to kill innocents," the statement from the university reads.
