'High School Musical 4' release date update: Play date still undetermined, but can fans hope for a Troy and Gabriella reunion?
The "High School Musical 4" release date is still undetermined, but a 2017 play date is being eyed. However, even if they said they were "all in this together," it seems the original cast of the much-loved Disney movie series won't appear on the fourth installment.
Fans of the movie series were jubilant when they first learned that Disney would be offering a reboot of its successful franchise. Nevertheless, when Entertainment Weekly initially reported that casting for the movie has started, none of the original cast members' names, which include Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, and Corbin Bleu, floated around.
Everyone who is a fan of the series knows that "High School Musical 3" ended with the cast members graduating from high school. This could be why Disney is aiming for new cast members and an entirely ramped up storyline, as Game n Guide reported.
Efron's no-show in the 10th anniversary reunion of the original cast members further sparked reports that he will not be appearing on the reboot. The rumor mill spewed reports that Efron was refusing to reprise the role that became a household name back in 2006.
Still, a recent Instagram post by Efron has fans speculating that he may be hinting at a possible reunion for him and Hudgens, who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend.

According to Movie News Guide, the 28-year-old actor's possible reunion with Hudgens is one of the most highly anticipated highlights that fans are expecting of the movie, especially after he called his "High School Musical" stint as "one of the most cherished and exciting times" of his life.
With the "High School Musical 4's" release date yet to be announced, fans are still hoping that Efron and 27-year-old Hudgens would still have a mini reunion, even if they would be playing cameo roles only.
