'Hellboy 3' release date and rumors: Ron Perlman and Guillermo Del Toro done with the movie?

A lot of fans have been wondering about the future of the "Hellboy" franchise after "Hellboy II: The Golden Army" came out in 2008.
For years, it looked like a possibility, but now it seems that the people behind the sequel, Ron Perlman and Guillermo Del Toro, have indefinitely shelved the project to work on their current movies and series.
In an interview at the New York Comic-Con held last week, Perlman decided to shed some light on "Hellboy III," and he said, "We don't talk about that anymore."
When asked about teaming up with director Guillermo Del Toro, Perlman said, "Because he's busy, and I'm busy. Maybe one day he's going to call and say, 'Hey, let's do it.' But for right now? We're happy discovering new worlds to conquer."
As of now, Del Toro is working on an animated series for Netflix called "Trollhunters," starring Perlman himself doing voiceover work. Along for the ride are voice actors like Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier") and "Star Trek Beyond's" Anton Yelchin, who tragically died in the middle of this year. Fans of his are sure to be happy to see some of his work released posthumously.
The "Trollunters" series follows teenager Jim Lake Jr. as he stumbles on a magic amulet that imbues him with powers to defeat the villain Bular.
Though the series may not exactly be "Hellboy," it contains a lot of classic Del Toro elements like mythical beasts and a unique character design. The series is based on a book series by Del Toro and Daniel Klaus.
Though the future may be bleak for the "Hellboy" franchise, it's nice to think that Perlman and Del Toro are only shelving it indefinitely instead of declaring the project dead.
Ryan Reynolds spent years trying to make the "Deadpool" movie happen; "Hellboy 3" could come when the time is right.
Fans may not see "Hellboy 3" for a while, but they can catch more of Del Toro and Perlman's work when "Trollhunters" comes to Netflix on Dec. 23.
