'Hawaii Five-O' season 7 spoilers: EP dismisses speculations on Catherine and Steve's getting together next season

CBS Network's police-procedural television series "Hawaii Five-O" is expected to launch its seventh season next month. Entertainment Weekly reports that it will be a heartbreaking season for fans of Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth) and Steve McGarett (Alex O'Loughlin).
It has been known that Borth will be reprising her role as Catherine next season. Many hopeful fans of the duo have been crossing their fingers for the characters to get back together. However, executive producer Peter Lenkov recently told EW that although she will return to the show, she will not be rekindling her relationship with Steve.
"People are interpreting it like her combing back into the relationship and starting all over again, but I just don't think that can happen after all that these two have gone through," Lenkov stated.
The executive producer then said that Borth's coming home has to do with the plot, rather than to reignite a past flame.
If the characters are to get back together, it might not be possible for this season. But for the seasons to come, it might be plausible. Rumors have been saying that season 7 will be the last. However, according to Parent Herald, Lenkov once again debunked the speculations and announced that the series can't end with season 7.
Borth will not be the only star to comeback on the 150th episode. Steve's mother Doris McGarett (Christine Lahti) will also make a comeback on the said episode.
Moreover, new characters are reportedly set to appear next season. A new lady governor Keiko Mahoe who will be portrayed by "AfterMASH" alum Rosalind Chao will be introduced. "In the Name of the King" actress Claire Forlani will also be joining the cast of the show as a retired criminal profiler Alicia.
"Hawaii Five-O" is expected to return on CBS this Tuesday, Sept. 23 on 9 p.m.
