Being Five-0 is no walk in the park and the stakes have never been as high as they are going to be when CBS' long-running police procedural series returns next year. And if the midseason cliffhanger that left Chin Ho's (Daniel Dae Kim) fate hanging in the balance was any indication, the rest of Hawaii's elite task force are sure in for one heart-stopping ride through the show's back half.

"I think one of the themes that [executive producer] Peter Lenkov has been exploring this season is the toll that our jobs take on our lives as members of Five-0," actor Kim told TV Guide in an exclusive interview following "Hawaii Five-0's" midseason finale, wherein his character, Chin, gave himself up to the Mexican drug cartel that's after his blood in exchange for his niece Sara's (Londyn Silzer) safe return.

Kim revealed that this loose thread will be tied up as soon as the series returns for the second half of season 7.

"[But] this theme of the cost of doing what we do will be a runner throughout the rest of the season," the actor added.

Does this mean that the rest of "Hawaii Five-0" season 7 will give more focus on family, friends, love, and everything else that the Five-0 Task Force stand to lose in their personal lives?

In an interview with CarterMatt, showrunner Lenkov shared that the personal stuff was the "fun stuff to write," and the fact that the viewers have been responding positively to it will continue to inspire more episodes exploring the characters' lives outside of the main plot.

"We tend to come more from [the perspective] of what our characters are doing more than what's the plot of every week," Lenkov said.

The executive producer also teased more involvement from Adam, played by Ian Anthony Dale, whose other show, "Murder in the First" has just ended. Kono's (Grace Park) husband will be assisting Five-0 in the show's first episode back and he will be playing a part in an upcoming "big action sequence."

"Hawaii Five-0" season 7 episode 12 will air on Friday, Jan. 6, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
