'Harry Potter GO' release date, news, update: Rumored to be in last stage of development; to arrive in 2017?

The "Harry Potter" series may be over but it doesn't mean the hype has died down. After the film release of "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them," fans are all the more looking forward to the purported mobile game, "Harry Potter GO."
Niantic is rumored to be working on the title following its latest hit augmented-reality mobile app game "Pokemon GO." The hearsay started after word spread that Niantic is granting the request of 40,000 "Harry Potter" fans who signed the petition called "Accio Harry Potter GO: We Want a Harry Potter Version of Pokemon GO."
Reports said that the Potterheads were stirred up after watching a fan-made video that showed an entertaining and quirky gameplay starring Harry Potter. It turned out to be so realistic that it quickly spread worldwide. The viral video basically convinced fans that it's possible that a gaming company may pick up the idea and make it into a real game.
But Niantic did not respond to the call right away, which is totally understandable since it has been busy working on "Pokemon GO." It's been a couple of months already since the launch of "Pokemon GO" so fans think that it may be time for Niantic to work on "Harry Potter GO."
Rumor has it that Niantic is already on the last stage of developing the game. This could mean that the game will be ready by 2017. However, there is no confirmation to this yet so it's best to take reports with a pinch of salt. Considering how tedious the process is to acquire the rights for the popular franchise, "Harry Potter GO" may still be far from happening.
Also, word has it that Niantic may not be the only company interested in picking up the game. Sony, EA Games and Supercell are all rumored to be bidding for the game's rights. Will "Harry Potter GO" come to reality? Fans will have to stay tuned.
