'Halo 5' DLC release date news: Monitor's Bounty arrives today; massive update detailed

The latest downloadable content (DLC) for "Halo 5: Guardians" arrives this Thursday, Dec. 8. The Monitor's Bounty update will introduce new weapons, armor and skins, as well as additional maps, a Custom Games Browser and Observer Mode. Players can also expect a massive update to Forge.

According to the blog post from 343 Industries, the Custom Games Browser will allow players to discover and join live games. With this free update, players will also be able to access the entire Forge and Arena multiplayer experience on Windows 10.

"The new Custom Games Browser enables you to search for in-progress games from the main menu. Games you can join are based on their privacy settings when they are created in the lobby. We've also updated the Content Browser so that if you find a map or mode that you like, you'll be able to browse for in-progress custom games from that file's options," UX design lead Vincent Hui explained.

Meanwhile, the new Observer Mode allows players in a Custom Game lobby to enter an ongoing match as a spectator. They will be able to see everything in real-time just like how the other players are experiencing the game.

Also, with the new update, more than 650 objects will be added to Forge. There will also be a massive update to the mode's scripting as well as the addition of new mini games.

Aside from all the free content, a Voices of War REQ pack will be available for purchase for $9.99. It comes with three all-new announcers for multiplayer matches: Spartan Buck, 031 Exuberant Witness and Yabda the Merciless.

Furthermore, in line with the holiday season, the latest DLC also comes with a new gifting system that allows players to send out REQ packs. To introduce the new feature, 343 will give all "Halo 5" players a Gold Gift Pack in their REQ inventory that they can gift to another player.

"Halo 5" is available for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
