Twelve years after the release of the last "Half Life" installment, fans are still hoping that "Half Life 3" will finally happen soon. Rumors have been circulating that the next installment of the well-loved series will come with full Virtual Reality (VR) support.

According to The News Independent, the evolution of VR in video games these days will be one of the reasons why "Half Life 3" is going to be released. Valve might consider the idea of the game with VR support plus the market demand, which is pretty evident with the undying rumors about "Half Life."

The news outlet also added that the developer might make an official announcement of the game during the Gamescon or E3 events. Fans also believe that the continuous rumors about "Half Life" will help the game reach new fans and become a sure-fire smash hit.

As usual, nothing has been confirmed yet by the company but the possibility of its development is very promising.

According to online reports, the new rumor was triggered during the "Dota 2" update a few months ago. Apparently, a lot of fans noticed a filename, "hl3.txt" in files that came with the update. Many believed that the filename pertains to "Half Life 3." Fans were hoping to get some sort of a reaction from the developers. However, the company has been mum about the speculation, which disappointed many of its followers.

Meanwhile, the departure of Marc Laidlaw after 16 years working for Valve might also jeopardize the development of "Half Life."
