'Half Life 3' release date rumors and news: Third installment still possible?

Ten years after the release of the second installment of the popular video game series, "Half-Life," fans are still hoping for a third game to come out. Although it is quite unlikely for the game developer Valve Corporation to develop another title for the series, the possibility is still there.
During the release of "Half Life 2: Episode 2" in 2007, the gaming company allegedly confirmed that a third installment is going to come out soon. However, 10 years later fans are still left with disappointment wondering if the third episode will ever be released.
Valve Corporation has also maintained its silence throughout the years with regard to the development of the game. According to reports, the creation of numerous multiplayer games by the company may have been the cause for the lack of interest to develop another "Half-Life game.
According to a report by Game Spot, there are speculations saying that the retirement of Marc Laidlaw, who has done significant works for the series, signals the end of the franchise. The game's co-creator and lead writer has decided to end his ties with the game developer for an unknown reason. There are reports suggesting that Valve Corporation may be looking for another person to replace Laidlaw. However this has not been confirmed by the company as of the moment. There are also reports saying that Laidlaw may have already finished his part of the "Half-Life 3" before living the company – whether it is true or not remains a mystery.
According to an ex-Valve employee, Laidlaw's departure was civil, citing personal reasons as the cause.
The Atlantic also reported that fans are starting to get frustrated because the game seems to have already ended without the story being finished.
Whether the third installment is going to happen or not, fans just want a clarification coming from the company. For now, all they have are merely just rumors and speculations.
