Half-Life 3 Release Date: Mystery Continues to Surround Development and Launch

Half-Life 2: Episode Two was released in October 2007 and since then fans of the series have found themselves in limbo with no news about the release of Half-Life 3. Even the idea that Half-Life 3 will ever be released has now become a joke to some who have become slightly disillusioned by the situation.
Throughout this year, rumors again swirled that Half-Life 3 was going to be released at various points, but each of those rumors came and went and nothing materialized.
Many sources then referred to Gabe Newell's interview in the Washington Post. The co-founder of Valve stated in it that the company decided to concentrate on Steam after the release of Half-Life Episode Two. The focus on the multiplayer game led to Steam becoming very successful, and it was rumored to have about 7.6 concurrent users as of 2013.
The success of Steam has meant the Valve does not have to, in Newell's words, crank "out sequel after sequel of Half-Life" to be a successful company. Newell also indicated that Valve is "always moving and adapting in accordance with its customers and their ever-shifting tastes."
Newell, however, stopped short of addressing any rumors surrounding the release of Half-Life 3, which customers are demanding. But he also noted that Valve has "An army of customers who are always helping us stay honest. They're rabid, they're passionate, and there are a lot of them."
Since the interview with Newell, the only other Half-Life 3 news emerging from Valve came from Minh Lee. He, according to JBG news, worked on artwork for the Left 4 Dead 3 game being created by Valve. When working on this artwork, he came across artwork for Half-Life 3. This seems to be legitimate but it could be outdated as Lee left Valve several years ago.
As for a release date for Half-Life 3, with no concrete confirmation of its development, it's too soon to be holding out too much hope for a release anytime soon.
