"Guardians of the Galaxy" may be a film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but it can definitely stand on its own. Aside from Thanos' (Josh Brolin) cameo appearance and the Infinity Stones, the movie has absolutely no other connection to the other MCU films. Well, it looks like that trend will continue in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

Director James Gunn took the time to answer some fan questions on Twitter and one fan asked the question that has been in a lot of people's minds, "Does maintaining continuity in the MCU interfere at all in the process of making your movie exactly how you want it?"

And this was what he replied: "I'm so out in space unconnected at this point, outside of Thanos in Vol 1, I've never had to deal with even a single moment of continuity."

He makes a good point. Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and his band of misfits have never met the other characters in the MCU, so Gunn never had to deal with the issue of maintaining continuity. Original "Ant-Man" director Edgar Wright would have loved to have the opportunity to do things without worrying about continuity issues.

Meanwhile, the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" teaser just had the biggest teaser trailer debut in Marvel history. The teaser was viewed 81 million times in the first 24 hours it was shown online. Right now, the teaser trailer is also Disney's second biggest trailer after the live-action "Beauty and the Beast" trailer.

"Thank all of you so very much for watching it (more than once), and sharing it, and welcoming Baby Groot and Mantis with open arms," Gunn wrote on his Facebook page. He also thanks the marketing team at Marvel and Disney for putting up with "all my eccentricities during the teaser editing process."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is scheduled to premiere on May 5, 2017.
