Hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" still holds the record of being ABC's top-rated show, and fans can't wait to see the upcoming landmark season 13 headed to TV screens later this year.

After Sara Ramirez's confirmed departure from the show, the series continues to move forward as Ellen Pompeo recently renewed her contract for next season as Dr. Meredith Grey. The news does not seem surprising since the show mainly revolves around her life. Deadline 46-year-oldt the 46-year-old actress is earning over $300,000 per episode, putting her fourth in Forbes' list of highest-paid actresses on television.

As far as the storyline goes, Amelia and Meredith have been at odds all throughout season 12, and the two are expected to have some peace in their lives once the show returns. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Shonda Rhimes mentioned that the show comes back with a more positive theme to it next season. "On Grey's, there's definitely a sense of optimism," she said.

Meanwhile, fans may be wondering what's next for Owen and Riggs. Their backstory has been revealed in the previous season, but it seems like the two will less likely patch things up anytime soon. In an interview with Stuff New Zealand, star Martin Henderson weighed in on the conflict involving the two characters and how it will carry over to season 13. "Riggs has to start defending himself to other characters in the hospital so he's forced to divulge things that may contradict Owen's perspective and people in the hospital won't know whether to believe Owen or him," he explained. "So the dynamic shifts and creates a much more complex relationship."

"Grey's Anatomy" returns to the small screen this coming September on ABC. The network has yet to announce an exact premiere date for the series.
