'Grey's Anatomy' season 13 spoilers: Focus will be on the original cast members

As previously reported, ABC Network's medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy" is expected to focus on the original cast members of the series. Season 13 will zoom in on the lives of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), Alex (Justin Chambers), Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Richard (James Pickens Jr.).
Caterina Scorsone, who portrays Amelia in the show, told The Hollywood Reporter, "There is going to be a lot of checking in with the original cast; we love them so much and there has been such a renaissance with the show that it's nice to focus on the core pieces that have been there since the very beginning."
To recap, the previous season showed Amelia and Owen's (Kevin McKidd) wedding. Alex had a fight with Jo (Camilla Luddington) after the former beat up Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti). On the other hand, Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) separated last season but the possibility of them getting back together for their newborn child was also hinted.
Moreover, Meredith once again butted heads with her sister, Maggie (Kelly McCreary), after she slept with Nathan (Martin Henderson). To note, Maggie previously declared her love for the same guy. Scorsone revealed that Meredith and Maggie will indeed get themselves into a love triangle in the upcoming season. The worst part is that the sisters will continue their family dynamic — Maggie will still be taking care of Meredith's kids — while the two are involved in such a mess.
For Jo and Alex, Gianniotti said to The Hollywood Reporter that Jo will truly lose Alex if she continues to keep secrets about her past. The actor also shared that Alex will be facing legal consequences after beating up Andrew.
Although the specific details of the upcoming season have yet to be revealed, Scorsone said it will be a literal explosion in the emotional sense. The actress revealed that a dramatic twist will be the key story in season 13.
"Grey's Anatomy" is expected to premiere on ABC on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. EDT.
