Back in July, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that the second title for the action-adventure video game franchise "Gravity Rush" will be released within the year. The statement, however, was recently retracted by game director Keiichiro Toyama, as he announced through the PlayStation blog that the launch will be pushed back to 2017.

Toyama stated that "Gravity Rush 2," which is also known as "Gravity Daze" in Japan, will be the conclusion of Kat's journey. In this game, the developers aim to leave players with a better understanding of the character's story.

Toyama hinted that the team is still polishing Kat's finale; thus, more time is needed. Furthermore, he revealed that they are putting a lot of effort into the game's online features, which allows asynchronous player interaction. Since the team has a lot of work to finish, they opted to postpone the release date to next year.

In his announcement, Toyama apologized to the fans of the franchise but he promised to deliver more exciting adventures. To make up for the delay, the developers decided to release a premium DLC (downloadable content) for free.

The developers initially intended to sell the DLC but it will now be available for free for all the fans who have supported their titles through the years. The DLC will feature additional storylines in the upcoming "Gravity Rush 2" video game.

Toyama didn't share additional details for the upcoming DLC but he teased that more announcements regarding the title and perhaps the DLC will be revealed during the Christmas season. He also hinted that special animated features could be presented during the holidays.

Reports suggested that the upcoming title could be exclusive for the PlayStation 4.

"Gravity Rush 2" will launch on Jan. 20, 2017 in the U.K. and the U.S instead of the previously announced Dec. 2, 2016 release date.

Stay tuned for more updates of "Gravity Rush 2."
