'Grand Theft Auto VI' release date news 2016: Game expected in 2020? New female protagonist, non-US setting among the game's new features
Rockstar Games seems to be bringing back the excitement in "Grand Theft Auto V" with the recent DLC releases over the past few months. However, the fans can't help but wonder if the game developer company will be pushing through with a whole new installment of the "GTA" franchise.

It was heavily speculated by the "Grand Theft Auto" fans that Rockstar Games will be launching "GTA VI" in the next few years, and that the company would be unveiling the new game sequel at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year. Still, E3 2016 has passed and no "GTA VI" was heard. Although, the rumors are still rife that the anticipated game title is still a go, although the fans may have to wait a little longer. As per the latest rumors, "Grand Theft Auto VI" may be released between 2018 and 2020. Following the five-year gap between two "GTA" installments for the past years, it can be expected that "GTA VI" will be out as early as 2018. To recall, "Grand Theft Auto V" was released in 2013.
Meanwhile, Neurogadget reported that Rockstar Games have been noticing the gamers' longing to explore bigger and fresh locations in every installment of the open world shooter game series. Rockstar is rumored to heed the request of the game fanatics as the company is reportedly considering other places outside the U.S. as the new setting for "Grand Theft Auto." The initial report has Tokyo City as the possible setting for "GTA 6," although the idea was dropped later on with either Colombia or Nevada now expected to be the center of action in the upcoming video game.
GTA players are also expecting new and wider variety of characters to choose from in "GTA 6." The previous games featured three male personalities that include Michael, Trevor and Franklin. To address the call for character variety, it is rumored that "GTA 6" will feature the first female protagonist in the franchise. For the voice actress, it is rumored that Hollywood actress Eva Mendes will be the one to reprise the role. However, it was earlier stated by Rockstar that adding a female personality in the game is unlikely at the meantime.
