'Gran Turismo Sport' release date news: Launch confirmed to take place in 2016 by Sony VP

Many fans have been waiting patiently for the arrival of the highly anticipated title, "Gran Turismo Sport." According to the latest report, the upcoming racing video game will definitely come out in 2016.

The vice president of PlayStation Southern Europe, Philippe Cardon, recently said during an interview with a French website, Challenges, that they will be releasing two video games this year. It will be the "Gran Turismo Sport" and "The Last Guardian." Both video games will be available soon on the PlayStation 4 platform.

Numerous reports have emerged in the past weeks suggesting that the release of "Gran Turismo Sport" will be delayed. However, Cardon made it clear during the interview that the title will come out this year, putting an end to the rumors. The vice president also stated that Sony is certainly doing well so far and with better plans for this year, the company is going to achieve success in 2016.

"For many 2015 was to be the peak in the cycle of 8th generation consoles, before entering a plateau, a more stable phase," Cardon said during the interview as translated by Google. "But we believe that 2016 will be another year of growth. This will be a better year for the software and a very big year for the hardware. We expect to sell many consoles yet. And then there's Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, the Sony event for this year. This is our biggest release of the year with Gran Turismo and the return of The Last Guardian. And of course, the PlayStation VR arrives."

Cardon's reassuring words will definitely take away the worries fans have since the delay rumor started. Nonetheless, he did not provide any specific details regarding the release date of "Gran Turismo Sport." For now, fans will have to wait for more announcements from Sony or from game developer, Polyphony Digital, for more information about the upcoming title.
