'Grace and Frankie' season 3 spoilers: Series creator Marta Kauffman hints story to focus on 'aging and living alone'

The sophomore season of Netflix's original comedy-drama, "Grace and Frankie" came to a close last month with Grace and Frankie on their way to self-discovery, and now fans are looking forward to what's in store for season 3.
In an interview with Deadline, series creator Marta Kauffman teased what's next for the show. She mentioned that season 3 will give viewers an idea of the concept of aging and what comes after it. "I can say this, one of the things we're dealing with is literally the vulnerability of being a certain age," she said. "When you think about your mother sitting home alone, some of these things are not things you think about. We're dealing with health and vulnerability and fear, and we're really getting into much more of the specifics about aging and living alone."
For the uninitiated, "Grace and Frankie" follows the lives of two long-time rivals Grace (Jane Fonda) and Frankie (Lily Tomlin). Their competition suddenly comes to an end when they discover that their husbands have fallen in love with each other and are planning to get married right away. When Grace and Frankie's lives start tearing apart, they figure out that they can only rely on each other.
Kauffman also mentioned how she came up with the unconventional idea of two husbands falling in love, saying that it was not their initial plan for the story. "Well, one of the ideas we played with was that Lily would play Jane's ex-husband who had a sex change operation and is now a woman. But then we found out about Transparent and were like, 'Nope. Can't do that,'" she added.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for "Grace and Frankie" season 3, but the series is expected to return sometime in May 2017.
