'Gotham' season 3 spoilers, news: Threat to Mario and Lee emerges in episode 10; Robin Lord Taylor reacts to fan complaints about Nygma and Penguin's relationship

Sparks will ignite in the upcoming episode of Fox's crime drama "Gotham" season 3.
Titled "Mad City: Time Bomb," next week's episode will see more shocking revelations. According to the official synopsis for episode 10, a threat to Mario (guest star James Carpinello) and Lee (Morena Baccarin) emerges on the eve of their rehearsal dinner. Falcone (guest star John Doman) asks Jim (Ben McKenzie) for help, while Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) plans to get revenge. Elsewhere, Bruce (David Mazouz) discovers new information about the notorious Court of Owls.
As the previous episodes have established, the Penguin's (Robin Lord Taylor) conflicts led him to find an unlikely ally in Edward Nygma aka the Riddler. As the two characters continue working together to achieve common goals, it seems that Penguin's fondness for his new partner in crime has grown quite complicated. Some fans believe it's romantic, while others say it's some kind of co-dependency between the two characters.
Although the series has not yet labeled Penguin and Nygma's relationship, avid fans of the comics have been voicing their complaints about the "canon" nature of the relationship. During the recently concluded Rhode Island Comic Con, Taylor shared his thoughts on the fan feedback the new partnership has been receiving.
"I have to say, that that's a bunch of horse sh*t," Taylor said. "You can't tell me that unless you were just as upset that in our own show, we have Batman and Catwoman growing up together, running around Gotham City growing up together. If you weren't as equally upset about that—which is changing canon characters. But you come to me and you say to me, 'I'm okay with you being queer but I'm upset you're changing a character,' what you're saying to me is, 'I am homophobic, and I am afraid of gay people and queer people.'"
