'Gotham' season 3 spoilers, news: Everyone goes a little mad in episode 8, Ivana Milicevic joins cast, Robin Lord Taylor speaks on Penguin's gay storyline

Everyone is going a little mad in the upcoming episode of Fox's dark action drama "Gotham" season 3.
Titled "Mad City: Blood Rush," next week's episode will see some characters get tangled up in various complications. According to the official synopsis for episode 8, Barnes (Michael Chiklis) begins to feel the results of a recent incident and starts to go out of his mind. Nygma's (Cory Michael Smith) relationship with Isabella (guest star Chelsea Spack) faces a complication, while Carmine Falcone (guest star John Doman) throws an engagement party for Lee (Morena Baccarin) and Mario (guest star James Carpinello).
In the past few episodes of season 3, viewers were surprised when it was revealed that Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) has romantic feelings for his partner in crime, Nygma a.k.a. Riddler. Some fans didn't like the unexpected storyline for the villainous character, so Taylor took it to social media to share his thoughts on Penguin's new arc. "For those who are upset about Penguin's feelings for Nygma, y'all are the opposite of woke. Go watch Duck Dynasty instead," he posted via Twitter. While "Gotham" has previously introduced a bisexual character in Barbara Kean, this would be the first time the program will have featured a gay storyline.
On another note, a new cast member will be joining "Gotham" for its third season. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Ivana Milicevic has been recently tapped to play the recurring role of Maria Kyle, Selina's (Camren Bicondova) long-lost mother. Described as a tough operator with an arsenal of street smarts, Maria has the ability to hid her true self behind a number of personas. As a criminal, Maria is more than willing to use anyone and anything to achieve what she wants. However, her only weakness is her daughter, Selina, who she abandoned and the sole person in the world she truly loves.
Tune in to "Gotham" season 3 airing every Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
