'Gotham' season 3 spoilers: Leslie meets new love interest, Ben McKenzie speaks on Jim's decision to become bounty hunter
After a busload of Dr. Strange's subjects were released, Gotham City will never be the same when "Gotham" season 3 returns this Fall.
During the show's Comic-Con panel, lead actor Ben McKenzie said the new season will pick up six months after the swarm of villains were unleashed. With the city in a complete chaos, it is now up to Jim Gordon to eliminate the notorious creatures. "Jim Gordon is a bounty hunter taking out the monsters and getting paid," McKenzie said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "It's a really dynamic start to season three."
To make matters worse, Jim will also face trouble in his romantic life when he discovers Leslie's new love interest. According to actress Morena Baccarin, her character went through a lot of struggles in the past while she was with Jim and now she needs time to recover from everything. The two characters may find themselves back in each other's arms again but according to McKenzie, "their road will be long and winding."
Speaking with Zap2it, McKenzie explained that Jim will go out of his way to make amends with Leslie after realizing her importance in his life. However, things will not go well leading him to travel from the South back to Gotham. Instead of re-joining the police department, he decides to become a full-time bounty hunter to momentarily forget all the emotional pain he is going through.
"The only reason he's bounty hunting is to pay the bills and it also gives him that thrill of being in combat again, of having a challenge again," the actor said. "But the larger mission of cleaning up the city, he's kind of throwing his hands up in the air and said, 'I can't deal with this on an emotional and psychological level right now.'"
