Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) gets forced to confront his past, present and future in the upcoming episode of Fox's dark action drama "Gotham" season 3.

Titled "Mad City: Red Queen," next week's episode will reveal more about Jim and how his choices will define him. According to the official synopsis for episode 7, Jim Gordon comes in contact with a substance by the hand of the Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel). As a result, Jim gets led on a psychedelic trip that forces him to confront his past, present as well as his future. Meanwhile, Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) finds it difficult to deal with Nygma's (Cory Michael Smith) new relationship.

The previous episode titled "Mad City: Follow the White Rabbit" delved deeper into Penguin and Nygma's interesting dynamic. Penguin finally professed his love for his partner in crime, but it doesn't seem likely that Nygma will feel the same way towards Penguin. Things took a different turn when Nygma met a new love interest who apparently likes randomly saying riddles like him.

After winning the mayoral election in Gotham City, Penguin decided to sever ties with his muscle, Butch Gillian (Drew Powell). Although his victory came with a cost, he eventually strengthened his relationship with Ed Nygma. In a recent interview, Taylor said Penguin's platform to "Make Gotham Safe Again" somewhat mirrors a real-life presidential candidate's advocacy.

"Oswald is someone who comes to power through manipulation, and manipulation of people's fears," the actor told Blastr. "What we're seeing here is a reflection of what's happening now, and someone who has no political office, has shady business dealings, is a master manipulator of everyone around him.

"It makes our show more relevant than it has ever been," he continued. "When Gotham City starts to reflect the world we live in, it's really f---ing scary."

Keep tuning in to "Gotham" season 3 airing every Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
