"Gotham" season 3 will have another new character on board after "The Walking Dead" star Benedict Samuel has been cast as the infamous Jervis Tetch (a.k.a. The Mad Hatter) â€” one of the villains who will be causing trouble in the city.

As noted by Deadline, the TV version of Tetch is described as "talented hypnotist teetering on the edge of madness. He arrives in Gotham with an unwavering desire to find his sister, Alice, a young woman who went missing in the city years ago."

Season 2 left off with Dr. Strange conducting his Indian Hill experiments in Arkham Asylum. One big clue that gave away Mad Hatter's future return was when Strange and his assistant Ethel Peabody were having a conversation about the process of resurrection while holding a copy of "Through the Looking Glass."

The Mad Hatter was co-created by Bill Finger and was first seen in 1949's "Batman" # 49. The comic books depict him as a scientist who has his very own mind-control system to manipulate his victims. Despite being inspired by a children's book character, the Mad Hatter is mostly portrayed as someone who is mentally ill with a very dark personality.

Aside from the latest cast addition, the network also revealed a new poster for season 3 featuring the Court of Owls. The group has been appearing on the show for quite some time now, but it seems that they will have a bigger role next season. First introduced in 2011's "Batman" #1, the Court of Owls is an organized crime group/secret society comprised of mask-wearing individuals who have been secretly controlling Gotham City for years before Batman discovered them.

As the story unfolds, they will attempt to have more control of the city after it was revealed in season 2 that they are responsible for funding Strange's experiments. Since the cast and crew will attend the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con, more details about the show are expected to be unveiled in the said event.

Tune in to the season 3 premiere of "Gotham" which airs on Monday, September 19th at 8 pm EST on Fox.
