Google Offers 1 Terabyte Free Space With Chromebook During The Holidays

Google is ringing in the holidays by offering people who buy a Chromebook one terabyte of free space. But there is one catch: The free space is on Google Drive. What makes the offer attractive is that it is valid for two years and is valued at $240.
Since news of the offer was announced through a blog post on the Google Drive Blog, reviewers have noted that it will make the Chromebook a popular gift during this holiday season because the laptop also has great battery life. Added to this is the fact that most retailers are offering big discounts on Chromebooks this holiday season especially around Black Friday.
Others have noted that last year the Chromebook Pixel was selling for $1,450. This year those who buy a new Chromebook will get one terabyte of free space even if they buy the version that currently retails for $199.
That means the 1 terabyte of free space for two years will be worth more than the maximum selling price of most of the Chromebooks that are currently available.
However, most retailers and online stores have not started displaying the offer. Even Google Play is only listing the old offer which comes with 100GB of storage on Google Drive. It is expected that by Black Friday and Cyber Monday most retailers would be offering the additional 1 terabyte storage space free.
Standard Chromebooks ship with a 16 GB drive while cheap PCs often feature a 500 GB drive. It looks like Google is trying to make up for the shortage of storage space on its Chromebook line and induce customers to buy more of it this holiday season.
The 1 terabyte free space offer is valid till the end of the year. Gigaom notes that it will have to be redeemed before Jan. 1, 2015 to qualify for the offer.
