The rumor that Google is currently cooking up its newest smartphone dubbed as "Nexus 2016" has long been spreading on the internet, with reports that the huge technology company is planning to surprise the tech fans by unveiling their brand new offering as early as this year. However, it may not be only Nexus 2016 that Google has in their updated inventory as there are reports that a mini version of the upcoming Nexus upgrade is going to be launched this year. Called by many as the "Nexus Mini," it is poised to rival Apple's newly-released iPhone SE.

According to a report from 9to5Google, the smartphone rumored to be the likely choice as base model for Nexus Mini is the LG G5 SE. The mini mobile device is already a trademark started by LG. It was reported to be the first one of its kind, even before Apple unveiled the vanilla iPhone SE on March 21. Details about the features of Google Nexus' own smaller version of LG G5 are limited as of the moment, although it was reported that the South Korea-based electronics company has also been creating mini versions of bigger LG smartphones that are outside the higher G-series.

Yibada noted that the rumored adaptation of LG G5 SE is a wise move for Google in order to offer the consumers with brand new phone features that go along with its vanilla design, unlike the iPhone SE which is considered to be a scaled-down version of Apple's old smartphone models. Google Nexus Mini, if the rumors verify, will be a brand new treat for the users instead of a recycled device.

It is rumored that Google is expected to provide more information on their next gadget ventures at the start of the company's I/O gathering this year, or there will be earlier confirmations of Nexus 2016 and Nexus Mini as early as May 18, as stated in the same report from Yibada.
