Google Nexus 2016 release date, specs latest news: Pixel and Pixel XL specs revealed

The upcoming Nexus smartphones will reportedly be part of the brand Pixel. The phones will not be branded HTC or Google, unlike the preceding units.
As previously reported, the Nexus 2016 smartphones have the codenames Sailfish and Marlin. However, recent reports suggested that the new Nexus phones will be named Pixel and Pixel XL. The Marlin or the Pixel XL is a more advanced unit compared to the Sailfish or Pixel.
The phones will have a Sony IMX378 12-megapixel rear camera and an IMX179 8-megapixel front camera. Moreover, the phones will come in 5.0-inch and 5.5-inch screens respectively.
The Pixel XL will reportedly come with a 5.5-inch Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED) display with QuadHD screen resolution. Moreover, this unit will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821/820 processor which has 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB or 128 GB of internal memory. The unit will also come with a 3,450 mAh battery.
On the other hand, the Pixel smartphone's 5.0-inch screen will come with 1080p resolution. The processor will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 that has a capacity of 4 GB for RAM and 32 GB for internal memory. The phone will have a 2,770 mAh battery.
In addition, both phones will have a USB Type-C port for charging and for transferring data. More importantly, rumors suggested that the Pixel XL will be compatible with virtual reality applications.
With such high-end processors, the upcoming smartphones are expected to compete with top-tier phones from Samsung and Apple.
In the past few years, Google launched its Nexus smartphones before it releases an update for Android. However, when it launched the final version of Nougat last month, there have been no signs of the Nexus smartphone.
Reports say that the mobile phones could be launched on Oct. 4. However, since Google hasn't given concrete information to support the recent claims, tech-savvy individuals waiting for these units should not get their hopes up too much.
