Google Nexus 2016 release date rumors: Where are the new Nexus phones?

The final version of Android Nougat was launched on Monday, Aug. 22, but Google has yet to announce the Nexus phones everyone's been hearing about in the past few months.
Traditionally, Google releases a Nexus phone each year, using the launch as a way to propel and market the annual Android update. However, this year, the Nougat was launched without a prior smartphone release. Will tech savvy individuals get their Nexus phones, codenamed Sailfish and Marlin, this year?
PC Advisor suggested two possibilities for Google's unconventional action. One is that the past reports could have been unfounded and that the alleged Nexus phones were never really in development. They speculated that HTC could be working on other devices, not Nexus phones. The second possibility is that the Nexus phones are not ready for public consumption. The news outlet suggested that Google could be delaying the launch for a few more weeks.
The second option seems more likely. Recently, Android Police reported photo leaks of the Nexus phone, which revealed an all-metal device. The report stated that both Sailfish and Marlin share the same materials and design.
The Sailfish will have a 5-inch screen size. The news outlet said the fingerprint scanner and camera module will be made of glass. The phone will also reportedly have a "G" logo, which stands for "Google," instead of the Nexus logo.
A Twitter user revealed that one of the two Nexus phones is "premium" while the other is "glossy plastic." Android Police suggested that the other phone could not have been a Nexus phone since previous reports about the pair proposed that the phones were not built with plastic.
Sources say that the new Nexus phones will be able to compete with top-notch phones from Samsung and Apple.
Google has yet to make announcements of the phones' release date but many expect the phones to launch before November 2016.
