Google Nexus 2016 release date news: 2 premium smartphones to launch?

Leaks and rumors have been circulating about Google Nexus 2016's HTC-made devices, but thus far, measly details are known about the smartphones.

There are talks that Google Nexus' latest smartphones will be codenamed Marlin and Sailfish, and if the rumors are to be believed, these new devices are said to be premium devices as far as build quality, internal components, and performance go. That said, those eagerly awaiting its release should be prepared to pay more than their predecessors, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

Nexus Blog recently leaked pricing information for Marlin and Sailfish, noting that Marlin will have a $599 price tag while Sailfish will sell for $449. It will be recalled that when Google released the mid-range Nexus 5X in 2015, its 16 GB model was priced $379 while the 32 GB model was priced $429. On the other hand, the high-end Nexus 6P was released in 32 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB models, with each one selling for $499, $549, and $659 respectively.

According to BGR, the pricier Marlin and Sailfish are expected to have a base internal storage of 32GB, which will probably explain the hefty price tag. Of the two, Marlin is said to be the high-end model, although major upgrades are on the drawing board for Sailfish.

Apparently, Marlin will feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD display and 4 GB of RAM. It will likewise feature an 8-megapixel front camera, a 12-megapixel rear camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, a USB Type-C port, and a 3450 mAh battery. It will run on Android Nougat.

On the other hand, the Sailfish is expected to feature a 5.2 Full HD display, 4 GB of RAM, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip. It will likewise run on Android Nougat and have the same 12-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, a USB Type-C port, and a 2770 mAh battery.

The official announcement for the Google Nexus 2016 Marlin and Sailfish is expected this September, with an official release happening in October.
