Google looking to release own smartphone soon

It appears that the race for the top spot among mobile phone manufacturers is about to be a little tighter as rumors reveal that Google is planning to release their own mobile phone soon.

Despite being in the market as one of the two dominating operating systems in the mobile phone industry, Google is now hoping to finally bring out a Google-branded handset.

According to The Telegraph, Google is planning to expand its business by moving into cell phone hardware devices.

Known primarily as a software powerhouse, Google owns Android which is used in almost all of non-Apple mobile phones.

They have had success with the Google Nexus brand but have mostly relied on other phone manufacturers to create the physical phone itself.

However, it seems that Google will now look at those brands as competitors by building their own phone line.

Reports say that the mobile phone should be ready by the end of the year, and many admit that if that does happen, Google will undoubtedly grab a hold of the mobile phone industry.

As The Telegraph noted, Apple holds the high-end market share of the industry, with Android phones making most of the middle to lower class markets.

However, if Google comes out with a phone that can directly oppose what Apple has, then the balance of powers could shift decisively into Google's favor.

For those who follow Google, this move should not come as a big surprise as the brand has hired people who know a lot about mobile phones.

It was reported by Recode back in April that Google hired former Motorola president Rick Osterloh.

Furthermore, Google's chief executive Sundar Pichai revealed  that they were taking big steps into developing mobile phones, but he clarified that they do not plan to cut ties with their mobile partners.

This is definitely big news for the company, so expect more updates regarding the matter in the weeks to come.
