'God of War' release date update: Kratos' son will be an effective AI partner, says director

Sony and Santa Monica Studio surprised the participants of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016 last week as their presentation featured the next installment of the highly successful "God of War" franchise. While the game will follow "God of War 3," the game producers did not describe the upcoming video game as "God of War 4."
The fans were also surprised by the appearance of Kratos' son in the preview trailer during the event, and while the game series' long-time followers are wondering if the new character will be of any importance to the new game, the "God of War" director revealed that he will be a competent AI partner for the game's main protagonist.
Creative director Cory Barlog explained that Kratos, the reigning protagonist of the previous "God of War" titles, will be getting a new competent assistant in the form of his own son, whose name is still not disclosed to the public. Kratos' son is also revealed to be a controllable AI partner rather than an independent or computer-controlled player than makes his own attacks and strategies. However, even if the character is controllable, he can still enter fights and move around the battlefield on his own, Dual Shockers reported.
The new "God of War" trailer caught the attention of many people at E3 last week, especially the game's brand new camera perspective and its subtle and quiet moments. However, one big difference in the upcoming sequel is that the game will not have an open world setting. Game Spot quoted Barlog, saying that "God of War" will remain "open," but it is not going to be an open world like the other entries in the game franchise.
"We wanted a much more intimate experience, a much more up close, and a much more player-controlled experience, so the camera really is a mechanic that we're leaning into heavily for everything in the game," said Barlog.
